CAAHI Overview
Overview of CAAHI
We are a collaboration of individuals and organizations committed to creating affordable housing for people with developmental disabilities and building integrated communities statewide.
The California Affordable Housing Institute, CAAHI, began in 1997 as a coalition of leaders throughout California to advance the development of quality, affordable housing options for people with developmental disabilities. In 2003, it became a 501 (c )(3) nonprofit organization. In December 2004, the Department of Developmental Services awarded a $300,000 grant to CAAHI to develop a statewide Resource and Information Center that will provide one-stop resources and training as well as showcase innovative housing projects that serve the developmentally disabled community.
Key deliverables of the DDS grant include the following:
- Provide Resources and Information
- Offer Technical Assistance
- Provide Support to Related Organizations to Network Together
- Advocate for Policies Supporting Housing for Persons with Developmental Disabilities
- Develop Funding Opportunities for Future CAAHI Operations, and Future Housing Projects
Through these various activities, CAAHI will foster a sense of community among the individuals and agencies dedicated to increasing the quality of life for persons with developmental disabilities.
